Located two hours north of Quito, the Otavalo region is diverse and therefore attractive. Here, you can discover a rich cultural and natural heritage that has given it national and international renown. Indigenous customs and textile crafts, combined with the beauty of the landscape, make this a must-see tourist destination in Ecuador.
Program:
Departure towards Otavalo and, along the way, a short stop in Calderón to observe Guaguas de Pan (traditional marzipan figures).
Arrival in Otavalo: visit to the traditional Otavalo market (Plaza de los Ponchos). Visit to the village of Peguche and its textile workshops, where we can observe the handling of different types of fabrics and the use of plants and insects to dye the fibers. Visit to the Andean musical instruments workshop Ñanda Mañiachic, where we will observe the making of a Rondador and enjoy a musical performance featuring several traditional Andean instruments.
Excursion to the Peguche waterfall. Continuation to Cotacachi for lunch. Free time for shopping in leather goods stores. Transfer to the Cuicocha Lagoon. Short walk around the crater. Optionally, you may take a boat ride on the lagoon. Return to Quito at the end of the day.
