Itinerary

This extinct volcano (4,580 m) is located 60 km northeast of Quito. Its ascent is an excellent warm-up to begin acclimatizing to the altitude.

This long hike to the summit of Imbabura will be a great memory of your first efforts in Ecuador. Of course, we will stop in the town of Otavalo to visit the market.

Itinerary :

Day 1:

Departure from Quito in a private vehicle around 8 a.m. heading toward Otavalo and then La Esperanza de Ibarra. Several stops are planned along the way to appreciate the diverse landscapes of Imbabura province. Stop in Otavalo to visit the craft market. Lunch in Otavalo or nearby.
Departure for San Clemente. Dinner and overnight stay in the indigenous community of San Clemente.

Day 2:

Early breakfast.
Hike to the summit of Imbabura (allow about 7 hours round trip, 4,580 m). The final section of the ascent is alpine and requires some caution from participants. Picnic lunch during the day.

Return to Quito in the afternoon.
