Horse Riding

Passionate or in love with horseback riding? Ecuador is the land of riders!!!

From the Andean chagra to the Pacific montubio, the horse reigns supreme, and many small haciendas offer horseback excursions through the Andean páramo around the Cotopaxi volcano or near the majestic Chimborazo.
Ecuador’s geography, with its vast stretches of páramo and lush green valleys, is a true playground for horseback riding enthusiasts.

This activity can be enjoyed in organized groups or on a private basis.
The rides can last from a few hours to several days.
Guaranteed atmosphere during the evenings — campfires and traditional storytelling included!

Every year, in July, the traditional “Chagra Parade” takes place.
Riders come with the finest horses from haciendas all across the country. They wear sheepskin coats, heavy striped wool ponchos, and hats representing their province.
They gather for a week in the páramo of the Cotopaxi volcano to round up wild bulls, select them, and distribute them among various haciendas.

It’s possible to join as a spectator — the only requirement: be a skilled rider and enjoy evenings by the campfire at 4,000 meters above sea level.
