Cuenca, or Santa Ana de los Cuatro Ríos de Cuenca, is located in southern Ecuador at an altitude of 2,500 meters.
The third-largest city in the country, with a population of around 500,000 inhabitants, Cuenca was declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999.
In the surroundings of Cuenca, the main tourist attractions are: El Cajas National Park, home to more than 300 lakes; Gualaceo and its traditional market; Chordeleg, famous for its goldsmith workshops; and Ingapirca, the largest archaeological site in Ecuador.
Program:
Day 1: Cuenca
The tour begins after breakfast at 9:00 a.m.
Visit of Cuenca’s historic center, the Homero Ortega hat factory, one or more museums chosen by the participants, and free time for shopping. Lunch. Overnight at a hotel in Cuenca.
Day 2: Ingapirca
Breakfast. Departure by private vehicle to Ingapirca (2-hour drive). Visit of the archaeological site. Typical lunch. Return to Cuenca in the afternoon. Overnight at a hotel in Cuenca.
Day 3: El Cajas National Park
Breakfast. Departure by private vehicle to El Cajas (1-hour drive). Hike or excursion in the national park. Picnic by the lake. In the afternoon, return to Cuenca. Overnight at a hotel in Cuenca.
Day 4: Gualaceo – Chordeleg
Breakfast. Departure by private vehicle to Gualaceo. Visit of Gualaceo’s traditional market. Typical lunch. In the afternoon, visit of the village of Chordeleg. Return to Cuenca.
