Altar Trekking from Inguisay

El Altar (5,320 m) is an extinct volcano that was probably higher than Chimborazo, but a major eruption in the past would have destroyed the volcanic cone, leaving a huge crater three kilometers in diameter.

El Altar (5,320 m) is an extinct volcano that was probably higher than Chimborazo, but a major eruption in the past would have destroyed the volcanic cone, leaving a huge crater three kilometers in diameter. The cirque of El Altar is particularly interesting due to its geographical isolation.

The campsite, set up inside Sangay National Park, will allow us to observe magnificent mountain lakes and, with a bit of luck, get close to some animal species.
