The Condor Trek is one of the most beautiful treks in Ecuador. It begins on the edge of the Amazon and ends in Cotopaxi National Park, and takes place at a minimum altitude of 4,000 meters.

It allows you to approach several Ecuadorian volcanoes such as Antisana (5,704 m), Sincholagua (4,980 m), and Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano in the world (5,897 m).

Due to the altitude and the nature of the terrain (marshy), we recommend this trek for people with good physical fitness. In addition, excellent altitude acclimatization is essential.

Practical advice:

Participants must have good acclimatization and solid physical fitness. This trek is carried out with mules and muleteers. No vehicle assistance will be possible, so loads must be limited to the strict minimum.

Some recommendations:

Be in good physical condition. Once on the route, it will be difficult to find an alternative way out.
In addition, excellent altitude acclimatization is essential, as we will camp some nights between 4,000 and 4,500 meters.

Mules cannot carry excessive loads, so unnecessary weight should be avoided.

We recommend bringing:

A change of clothes for the evening (1 pair of pants, 1 fleece, dry socks and T-shirts that will travel on the mule during the day)

1 spare pair of socks and T-shirt per day (in case of frequent rain)

A rain poncho and waterproof pants in case of heavy rain

A daily snack will be provided, consisting of:
Sandwich, sweet or savory biscuits, fruit, a chocolate bar, and half a liter of energy drink.

If you drink more liquids during the day, you will be able to refill your bottle at one of the many springs or rivers along the route. In that case, it is recommended to bring disinfecting tablets such as “Micro Pur.”

Precautions:

Due to the type of terrain, altitude, and reduced oxygen levels, participants must report any symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, excessive sweating, vomiting, or pain in the abdomen or chest. These symptoms may be related to altitude sickness. Once informed, the guide will take the necessary measures for your well-being and safety.

Note:

The program may be canceled or modified if the minimum number of participants is not reached, or if weather conditions or other exceptional circumstances affect the normal operation of the trip. In the event of natural disasters, social or political issues, road closures, or other situations, we will seek an alternative solution while trying to alter the program as little as possible. Otherwise, part of the program cost will be refunded after deducting expenses already incurred.
